SSC Ultimate Aero II

SSC Ultimate Aero II – Expected to Reclaim the Title of World’s Fastest Production Car

The SSC Ultimate Aero II from Shelby SuperCars aims at regaining the title of world fastest production car currently held by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport at 268 Mph.

Shelby Supercars’ Ultimate Aero TT used to be the fastest production car in the world, its 256-mph record speed eclipsing even the mighty Bugatti Veyron. Then, as of a few months ago, Bugatti got its act together and topped SSC’s number with the new Veyron Super Sport.
In August at Monterey, the Ultimate Aero successor, the Ultimate Aero II, penned by new Saab design chief Jason Castriota , was unveiled in a private ceremony captured on YouTube. It was all a tease. The car was never actually shown in the ‘unveiling’ video, only the attendees’ reaction to it.

And now we know why. Jalopnik has secured a pair of leaked images slated to appear in Top Gear magazine in conjunction with the car’s official launch next week.  It’s got an edgier, more assertive appearance than its predecessor, and we can only assume that it has the power to back up its menacing new looks.

According to Top Gear, the supercar features a twin-turbo 6.8-liter V8 engine with 1,350 bhp (1,007 kW / 1369 PS). This will likely enable the 2,600lb (1,179kg) UA2 to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds, before topping out at 275 mph (443 km/h). If the latter figure holds up, the Ultimate Aero II will become the world's fastest production vehicle.
As we have previously reported, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport currently holds that title with a top speed of 268 mph (431 km/h). When it accomplished that task, it dethroned the original 256 mph (412 km/h) SSC Ultimate Aero.
